Moving is usually one of the most stressful experiences, but Mikey and the team at Athens Moving Experts turned it into an absolute breeze. From the minute they arrived, Mikey was punctual, professional, and full of positive energy. He handled all of our furniture and heavy items with incredible care, he ensured not a single wall was scuffed or item damaged during the process. Mikey and his team listened carefully to where we wanted things placed, worked with incredible speed, and maintained fantastic communication from start to finish 🩷

We were downsizing and relocating from Holly Springs to Pittsboro. We had four PODS (2-16', 1-12', and 1-8') all needing to be delivered over a week-long period (because the new driveway was small). Athens team members helped up pack the PODS and, five weeks later after we closed on the new house, unpack them. We met and got to work with many Athens team members over that time. All were friendly, hard-working, and efficient. Mike Delgado was with us as a crew leader numerous times and always communicated clearly, working to understand our needs, and helping us set up the new place. Overall, we found everyone at Athens to be professional and committed to customer service.

UPDATE (July 2, 2026): After the branch manager officially refused my requests for a billing correction and told me the case was closed, I updated this review and filed a formal complaint with the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC). Within 24 hours of filing the state complaint, the company completely reversed its "final" decision. Instead of handling this through proper corporate email channels, the moving crew bypassed management and created an unauthorized text group chat, dragging both me and my girlfriend into a high-pressure conversation using intimidating language to demand we accept an informal tip refund. Following this severe boundary and data privacy violation, the office has now forced through a $205.35 refund to my card (returning the $180.35 tip and a $25 credit). While they claim they stand by their service, their actions speak louder than their corporate text responses. I have kept the unauthorized group chat intact and am handing all text records over to the NCUC analyst. I am keeping this complaint active and leaving this 1-star review in place until the state finishes investigating the remaining padded labor charges and their highly unprofessional conduct. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a moving company in Raleigh. My experience with Athens Moving Experts was incredibly frustrating due to deceptive billing practices, careless handling of property, and an absolute lack of professionalism. First, be aware of how they manipulate hourly billing to pad the clock. I was charged a flat $150 travel fee, but they also use the hourly labor rate ($180/hr) to double-charge you for extended time on the road. The crew took over 2 hours just to load the truck at a storage facility fully equipped with flat rolling carts and a massive freight elevator. Yet, they miraculously managed to unload the entire truck into my new apartment in just 43 minutes, despite having NO elevator and forcing them to haul everything up a flight of stairs. The math doesn't lie: they deliberately dragged their feet at the start of the day to run up the bill. My girlfriend also noted that the movers consistently disappeared and took unauthorized breaks throughout the process. On top of that, the drive between locations took nearly an hour for a straightforward, 30-minute route. When they finally got to my apartment, I watched them stand around the truck rather than actively working, all while the hourly clock was running on my dime. Management completely dismissed this massive discrepancy and refused a partial refund. Second, the crew's behavior was completely unprofessional. They were actively vaping while handling my belongings. Worse, they left their trash, a Gatorade bottle, littered right on the walkway outside my apartment door. According to the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) Moving 101 Guide, crews are explicitly required to remove debris and packing materials on delivery day—clearly, this crew doesn't care about state regulations or basic cleanliness. Finally, their handling of my items was careless. Multiple heavy-duty boxes arrived completely caved-in and crushed because they stacked items improperly on the truck. When confronted, management tried to blame me by claiming my boxes were "already showing signs of wear" before the move to avoid liability, which is entirely false. If you want a company that respects your time, treats your belongings with care, cleans up after themselves, and doesn't overcharge you, do not hire Athens Moving Experts.

I recently used Athen Moving Express to move my baby grand piano, which is a cherished family heirloom, and I could not have been more impressed with the experience. Mike, Ed, and Rich were professional from start to finish. Their communication was excellent throughout the entire process, and they were incredibly accommodating when I needed to make scheduling changes. From the moment they arrived, it was clear they were experienced and took great pride in their work. Moving a baby grand piano is no small task, especially when it involves a challenging move to an upstairs room. Before they even began, I was impressed by how they communicated with one another, carefully discussing the logistics and creating a plan to ensure the piano, as well as our new home, would be fully protected throughout the move. They handled the piano with exceptional care and attention, and they were patient in helping me position it until I felt it was exactly where I wanted it. Their professionalism, teamwork, and attention to detail gave me complete confidence every step of the way. I would highly recommend Mike, Ed, and Rich at Athen Moving Express for any large, delicate, or specialized move. They exceeded my expectations, and I will definitely be keeping their card for any future moving needs.

Mike and Ed did a spectacular job with our move. We moved into a second floor apartment and they did an amazing job making sure all our items got there safely. They took great care of our items by wrapping them and making sure they were secure in the truck. 10/10 moving experience, stress free and affordable pricing.
